Race Officialships
Due to the record-breaking Annual Appeal support from US SAILING members, US SAILING will cover the tuition for young adults (age 18-35) to attend US SAILING Race Administration seminars and workshops for race management, judging, and umpiring. The two primary goals of the Race Officialship initiative are to encourage young sailors to get involved in race administration and participate at their local clubs. There are many race administration seminars and workshops scheduled throughout the country in 2011. President of the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association of North America (ICSA), Mitch Brindley said: "I am excited about US SAILING's new Race Officialship program. This initiative is an opportunity for young adult sailors to pursue an interest in race management and improve the overall process of racing rules enforcement. The funding by US SAILING provides young adults with the incentive they need to expand their knowledge for the sport from an official's perspective."
US SAILING would like to encourage high school and college sailing team members, recent college graduates, and others with time to give back to the sport to take advantage of this new initiative.
